Airbnb in Cyprus: Expiration of Grace Period for Compliance

According to recent press publications, more than 10.000 beds (2.000 accommodations) have so far been registered in the Register of Self-catering Accommodations held by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism in Cyprus.
The Grace Period granted to providers will expire in February 2023, and anyone advertising Self-Catering Accommodations located in Cyprus will be subject to penalties and administrative fines.
The application for registration is done online and once approved, a relevant license, registration number and mark will be provided to be used when advertising the relevant unit.

Regulation of Short Term Rentals in Cyprus

Law N. 9(I)/2020 was enacted in January 2020, amending the current ‘Law on the Regulation of Establishment and Operation of Hotels and Tourist Accommodations of 2019 (N. 34(I)/2019)’ to regulate the operation and licensing of Self-Catering Accommodation (including Properties listed on Airbnb) in Cyprus.
It provides for the introduction of licensing requirements and the establishment of a ‘Register of Self-Catering Accommodations’, which will be kept by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism.
Based on the legislation, the Deputy Ministry of Tourism will be able ex officio to check whether there is a license and registration submitted in the Register.
