The United Kingdom is now officially outside the EU. Due to Brexit, there are some changes for UK nationals who already reside in Cyprus or are planning to come to Cyprus to live and work.
The Withdrawal Agreement, between the UK and the EU, is protecting the rights of UK nationals and their family members to live in Cyprus.
UK nationals living in Cyprus
UK nationals living in Cyprus now have to exchange their Yellow Slip for the new residency card specifically created. With more than 30.000 UK nationals living in Cyprus, demand is very high and appointments with the Immigration Department are filling up fast.
UK nationals who have completed five years of continuous residence in Cyprus can acquire permanent residency.
UK nationals who have exercised their free movement right before the 31st of December 2020 will be able to remain in Cyprus for five years. After this period, they will be eligible to apply for permanent residency.
Family members of UK Nations
Existing family members and children of UK nationals that will be born or adopted after the Transition Period (which ended on 31/12/2020), can re-unite with family members (UK nationals) living in Cyprus. They will then be eligible to secure permanent residency in Cyprus after five years of living in the country.
UK Nationals and family members moving to Cyprus
UK Nationals and their family members wishing to move to Cyprus may apply for temporary or permanent residency in accordance with existing regulations for third country nationals moving to Cyprus.
